Based in Austin, Texas, Hovvdy is the writing and recording project of Charlie Martin and Will Taylor. The duo, both primarily drummers, first met in the fall of 2004 and quickly bonded over a love for quiet music. Within a few weeks, they had combined songs and began recording their first EP in bedrooms and family homes across Texas.
Hovvdy has found a unique identity in rhythmic, down-tempo pop songs that are hopeful, yet melancholy; relatable, yet distinguishable. They have announced their new album True Love and shared a video for its title track. The LP is due out October 1 via Grand Jury. True Love is the band’s fourth album, following Heavy Lifter (2019), Cranberry (2018), and Taster (2017). They recorded it at co-producer Andrew Sarlo’s studio in Los Angeles in 2020.
