Experimentation and dance, organic textures and synthetic details come hand-in-hand in Bearoid, project that the Valencian, Daniel Belenguer Saborit has created as a vehicle for music research and his quest for independence. Halfway between classical house and new soul, this Barcelona-based producer follows in the footsteps of Chet Faker and conceptualises electronic music to give us dizzy, irresistibly danceable tracks. “Dawn At Home” is his second EP. He has just released a new song, a hit called “Out of my mind” whose sound brings back the disco music of the eigthies.
Behind the four onomatopoeic letters lies the young but experienced Barcelona producer who is catching the attention of everyone in the city’s vibrant scene. The reason for this interest and acclaim is largely thanks to her work “Glid”, a five track EP released on new artistic platform Galaxxxy Sandwich, hailing from the Egyptian Maraccas label. On “Glid” (which in Swedish means “slide”) Awwz pens an alluring sound mixing future beats, pop and r&b, with translucent melodies, sensual vocals and slow and simmering imaginative rhythms. Awwz will perform on Friday at Sónar at 2pm by Day by opening proceedings on the green grass of SonarVillage. She will be accompanied (on a couple of tracks) by Bearoid, another of Barcelona’s young and upcoming producers and EP collaborator.
Awwz is the new project from Gemma. She began her artistic career as part of the Thug Ladies duo, performing at several of Spain’s key festivals and venues, especially at Razzmatazz, where she honed her skills as resident DJ. As a solo artist, Awwz debuted with the “Gals” EP on American label Freshmore, which received excellent feedback both in Spain and Latin America and saw her perform in Mexico and Colombia. Awwz has created her own unique brand with just a handful of tracks that she describes as “shower music”. This is visually illustrated in the fantastic interactive video for her song, “Awake”.
Per a qui encara li queden energies després de tres dies de música al Fòrum, final de festa sonat del Primavera al Raval, la programació de concerts gratis del festival Primavera Sound al CCCB, amb una colla de grups que han format part de la programació oficial del festival en edicions anteriors, i que ara hi toquen de franc. L’encapçalen els pioners del rock independent nord-americà Mudhoney, el projecte en solitari del líder de Deerhunter, Bradford Cox, un dels grups capdavanters del ‘revival’ garage rock, Black Lips. Pasaran també per aquesta última jornada del CCCB els nord-americans Downtown Boys i la seva piconadora punk, els vigatans Power Burkas, els gironins The Handclappers, el valencià Bearoid i els barcelonins Twin Drama i Redthread. El segell català Bankrobber també hi serà present amb les actuacions de tres de les seves bandes: Esperit!, Ran Ran Ran i Pacosan.
