Benjamin Clementine, the British composer, pianist and singer with an intense voice, won the 2015 Mercury Prize for Best Album with his debut, ‘At Least for Now’ (2015). He’s back for the second year in a row at the Guitar BCN festival, this time with ‘An Evening with Benjamin Clementine & His Parisian String Quintet’, where Clementine takes the stage at the Tívoli along with five renowned French string players, including Barbara Le Liepvre on the cello.
British songwriter, pianist, and singer with an intense voice Benjamin Clementine grew up reading the poetry of William Blake and TS Eliot, but what changed his life was the keyboard one of his siblings bought for him, and discovering musicians from Erik Satie to Antony & The Johnsons. His debut, ‘At Least for Now’ (2015), won the prestigious Mercury Prize for Best Album in 2015. Now he presents his much-anticipated second album, ‘I Tell a Fly’ (2017), a work inspired by the idea of an alien or foreign being with extraordinary abilities that could be he himself. Tonight at Razzmatazz.
Benjamin Clementine grew up reading the poetry of William Blake and TS Eliot, but what changed his life was the keyboard one of his brothers bought for him and the discovery of a roster of musicians ranging from Erik Satie to Antony & The Johnsons. His first EP, ‘Cornerstone’, received rave reviews, and his debut album, ‘At Least for Now’, won the prestigious Mercury Prize for the best new album of 2015. Clementine’s moving voice tells stories of love and loss, hope and despair, in lyrical songs that he plays at the piano. These are personal experiences from a self-taught British musician who spent long periods living in the streets in the UK and France, but they are also shared by many listeners who identify with and are touched by the extraordinary talent of one of the most unusual musicians to have emerged in recent times. Tonight at Palau de la Música.
