For the past few years SOPHIE has challenged and redefined ideas of pop culture and appeal with music that is harsh yet beautiful, full of familiar elements used in unexpected ways. Since the release of the 2015 debut album Product, Sophie’s wonderfully challenging production has led to collaborations with artists such as Charlie XCX and Vince Staples. 2017 saw SOPHIE in front of a camera and microphone for the first time with the exceptionally tender, “It’s Okay To Cry,” introducing audiences to the visual side of her creativity. With a reimagined live show first debuted at the end of 2017 in Los Angeles, Sophie will present tomorrow at Sonar Barcelona a genre-bending audiovisual experience that only a maverick such as herself could produce.
Franz Ferdinand release ‘Feel The Love Go,‘ the new single to be taken from Always Ascending, their forthcoming album on Domino out Friday, February 9.
The track is accompanied by a video by acclaimed director Diane Martel (Miley Cyrus, Charlie XCX, Justin Timberlake). The video, shot while the band were in Los Angeles recently, has the feel of a public access TV religious show and sees frontman Alex Kapranos cast as an unhinged evangelical preacher.
Always Ascending is the band’s fifth album and was recorded at RAK Studios, London and Motorbass in Paris, with the help of French producer extraordinaire Philippe Zdar (Cassius, Phoenix, The Beastie Boys). Nothing short of a rebirth, the album’s 10 songs are a triumphant recasting of the group, bursting with fresh ideas and vigorous sonic experimentation.
