In the wake 2008’s global economic collapse, Toro y Moi emerged as a figurehead of the beloved sub-genre widely known as chillwave, the sparkling fumes of which still heavily influence musicians all over today.
Toro y Moi project will return this spring with the new album Mahal.
Michelle Zauner a.k.a. Japanese Breakfast has announced a new album called Jubilee. It arrives on June 4 via Dead Oceans. Zaunder has also shared the album’s first single, ‘Be Sweet’, alongside an accompanying video that pays tribute to the cult sci-fi show The X-Files.
She made a name for herself with two self released in which she made it clear that she wanted to tear down all singer songwriter conventions, but it was the album “Bury Me At Makeout Creek”, her debut on Dead Oceans, that confirmed that this New York based Japanese artist was a sort of enigmatic cross between the Cocteau Twins and Courtney Barnett.
