Once hailed by some writers as the second coming of Gang of Four, The Rapture were the flagship band of the post-punk revival that swept through the indie underground during the early 2000s.
The Rapture’s excellent gospel-disco rager “How Deep Is Your Love?” is the better part of a year old now, but its video, in which a dancing Indian In The Cupboard-sized Luke Jenner entertains a bunch of ladies at a tea party, is brand new. It is also ridiculous.
East London art punkers Bloc Party mixed angular sonics with pop structures and helped shape the sound of British indie rock throughout the 2000s. Tense post-punk rhythms and dissonant guitar hooks took their cues from Gang of Four and Joy Division on the band’s 2005 debut Silent Alarm.
Bloc Party haven’t released an LP since Hymns way back at the beginning of 2016, but they’re set to change that in 2022. The band will release their sixth album Alpha Games in April.
Warpaint have shared their dreamy cover of Gang Of Four‘s ‘Paralysed’ from the upcoming tribute album ‘The Problem Of Leisure: A Celebration Of Andy Gill And Gang Of Four’. Hear it first on NME below. Announced back in January, the upcoming tribute album to the late post-punk icon Andy Gill.
Calgary collective Crack Cloud are a many-headed beast. In their present incarnation there are seven of them, playing various strains of guitars, percussion and synths, but you get the feeling that could change with the wind. They could just as soon be a three piece, or a full art-rock orchestra, or just one person on their own with a sample pad.
Their music is like a lost gem from post-punk’s most arty moments: urgent, strange, and groovy in danceable akin to Gang of Four and early Talking Heads.
Vancouver collective Crack Cloud have finally announced that their debut album is on the way! Following 2018’s EPs ‘Crack Cloud’ and ‘Anchoring Point’, the group’s first full length ‘PAIN OLYMPICS’ is set to land on 17th July, and to celebrate their sharing the video for punk-funk lead single ‘Ouster Stew’ as well.
