The muses of la musa: benee

One such banger is pop anthem Supalonely, by Auckland-born Benee (featuring American singer Gus Dapperton), which is rapidly climbing the UK’s Official Singles Chart – entering at Number 39 and zooming to the cusp of the Top 20, at Number 22 at time of writing.

Benee (pronounced ‘Benny’, fyi) was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. Real name Stella Bennett, she’s just 20 but has already made waves in her home country.  Benee began her career posting covers to Soundcloud as a teen, and in her final year of high school began making her own tunes. The super-infectious Supalonely came about in 2019 as part of her second EP, Stella & Steve.

Music by Bergman: Gus Dapperton

He’s handsome, he wears great glasses, he’s got a killer voice — Gus Dapperton has got us all excited in the way that only a new music discovery can. Inspired by world class cinema and heartache, the Warwick, New York-based artist has been quietly putting out very good music, very sporadically, for the past year.  At only 20 years old, Dapperton feels like he’s coming into his own, catching the attention of music fans and fashion heads alike. His new EP, Yellow and Such, sounds like a dream—a dazzling display of layered production, ambient segues, and lyrics that resonate. It’s a four-song exploration of falling in love for the first time, an experience that shaped the maturity of his sound and caliber of work.
