Best Covers: Siouxsie and the Banshees ‘The Passenger’
Proto-punk becomes post-punk goth brilliance on Siouxsie and the Banshees’ take on “The Passenger.” A swinging beat and brassy horns breathe new funk into Iggy Pop’s solo fan favorite, originally released on 1977’s seminal album Lust for Life. It was a hit for Siouxsie and the Banshees who released the cover as a single from 1987’s Through The Looking Glass.
Best Covers: Snoop Dogg “Red Right Hand”
For five seasons now, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds’ track “Red Right Hand” has served as the theme song for the UK period crime drama Peaky Blinders. PJ Harvey, Laura Marling, Iggy Pop and Jarvis Cocker, and more have also covered the song for the show. And now, Snoop Dogg has too.
“By the order of the Peaky Blinders, this is ‘Red Right Hand,’ by Snoop Shelby,” Snoop Dogg says in the video for his cover before tipping his era-appropriate flat cap to the camera. Listen to Snoop’s take on the shadowy, half-spoken song and compare it to the original below.

Hit of the week: Iggy Pop ‘James Bond’
Iggy Pop has released a video for his track James Bond. The song has been selected from Pop’s upcoming studio album Free, which will arrive on September 6 through Loma Vista/Caroline International.
It’ll be his first record since 2016’s Post Pop Depression, and will feature additional vocals from Faith Vern, Leron Thomas on trumpet, Robin Sherman on bass, Thomas Glass on drums and Ari Teitel on guitar, and will also include contributions from Sarah Lipstate, aka Novella.
The video has been directed by Simon Taylor and was shot on location at Sweat Records in Miami.

In-Edit 2016
Després de 14 edicions, a l’In-Edit li passa el mateix que a la gran majoria dels festivals de música: necessita caps de cartell que garanteixin l’afluència de públic, encara que no necessàriament marquin el llistó artístic més alt de la cita. Aquest any Blur i Oasis coincideixen en el festival de documental musicals. al costat d’aquests dos clàssics de finals del segle XX, dos noms clau en la història del rock: Frank Zappa i Keith Richards.
El festival va començar ahir i s’allargarà fins el 6 de novembre. També s’ha completat el programa amb 24 títols més. L’homenatge als 40 anys del punk sumarà films internacionals amb el British Council, com ‘Rough cut and ready dubbed’, ‘Rude boy’ o ‘Punk attitude’. A la secció nacional, s’afegeixen ‘Lo que hicimos fue secreto’ i ‘Inadaptados’, entre d’altres.
El documental biogràfic és un dels formats més recurrents i menys sorprenents. Tant se val que es decanti per l’hagiografia plana o que s’endinsi en el costat fosc de l’artista, avui dia ja no hi ha músic sense el seu documental. Aquest any la biografia més cridanera és ‘Gimme danger’, sobre els Stooges d’Iggy Pop, perquè la firma el cineasta Jim Jarmusch.
En la 14a edició del festival In-Edit la música també es podrà viure en directe. El cofundador del grup de hardcore punk Snuff i membre dels Toy Dolls Duncan Redmonds oferirà una actuació acústica que completarà la projecció del documental ‘A fat wreck’.
