Hit of The Week: Jamie xx ‘KILL DEM’

Ahead of a handful of US headline shows later this month, Jamie xx has shared a brand new track.

‘KILL DEM’ was premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo’s Hottest Record In The World earlier this evening, and was inspired by Notting Hill Carnival.

The track follows on from his most recent offering ‘Let’s Do It Again’, which was shared back in April, and doubled as his first new material in over two years.

Divus Julius Bonasera presents: Jamie xx

As if the trip he made into the depths of the history of electronic music with In Colour in 2015 had not been one of the most important albums of the decade. As if his role in The xx had not acquired a fundamental weight over the years, gradually making him the backbone of the trio on I See You. As if We’re New Here, the album of remixes with Gil-Scott Heron, was not one of the best gifts that could be given to the Chicago icon in his last few months of life. As if, after the release of his solo album, he had not revealed himself to be a versatile DJ able to bring any dance floor to life, as he did at the last minute at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2017 with that Stop Bajon by Following the release of ‘Idontknow’, Jamie xx has returned with a new single ‘LET’S DO IT AGAIN’.

Hit of The Week: Oliver Sim ‘Romance With A Memory’

The xx bassist and vocalist Oliver Sim has shared his debut solo single – listen to ‘Romance With A Memory’ below.

Sim is the last of the trio to go solo, with Jamie xx – who produced Sim’s new track – having a long solo career which includes 2015 LP ‘In Colour’, and guitarist/vocalist Romy Madley-Croft going solo last year as Romy with the single ‘Lifetime’.

Favourite Gig: Florence + The Machine

Florence + The Machine and their epic sound are back in Barcelona to present their fourth album, ‘High as Hope’ (2018), the majority of which was written composed and recorded by Florence Welch herself, and finished up in Los Angeles along with producer Emilie Haynie. This album also features collaborations with Jamie xx, Kamasi Washington, Sampha, Tobias Tess Jr. and Kelsey Lu. This time around you’ll see a more transparent Florence, singing unreservedly about her fears. Tonight at Palau Sant Jordi.

Pardals: John Talabot
