This year Lucy Dacus is working on a singles series entitled 2019 where she will release seven songs in 2019, each timed to a different holiday. It’ll be a mix of covers and originals. Now she has shared another installment, a cover of Phil Collins’ 1981 classic “In the Air Tonight” timed to Halloween. She has also confirmed the details of the 2019 EP, which is due out November 8.

Lucy Dacus offered an early Valentine’s Day gift, putting a striking spin on Edith Piaf’s signature song, “La Vie En Rose.” The track marks the first installment of a new holiday-themed cover series that Dacus will continue throughout the year.

For her rendition of “La Vie En Rose,” Dacus turned the swooning classic into a rumbling rock cut. Singing in both French and English, Dacus’ vocals guide the song as a deft arrangement of pulsing drums and guitars ebbs and flows beneath her.

March 2nd marks the release of Historian, the sophomore album from Virginia-bred indie singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus. Due out via new label home Matador Records, it’s been teased thus far with breakup track “Night Shift” and now a song called “Addictions”.

It’s easy to see why the 21-year-old’s star has risen so quickly. Her songs walk a line between grunge-indebted indie rock and alt-country, with the appealing warmth of Neko Case and, as many critics have noted, the self-deprecating wit of Courtney Barnett. More importantly, she has a voice we haven’t quite heard before and a unique talent for encapsulating the emotional truth of a moment in impressionistic lyrics that feel effortless.
