Divus Julius presents: She & Him

She & Him feature the somewhat unlikely pairing of country-folk artist M. Ward and actress/singer/songwriter Zooey Deschanel. While starring in the 2007 film The Go-Getter, Deschanel was asked by director Martin Hynes to perform a duet with Ward, who had agreed to helm the movie’s soundtrack.

Set for release on 22nd July on Fantasy Records, She & Him – aka Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward – have announced their seventh studio album, a tribute to Brian Wilson, ‘Melt Away: A Tribute To Brian Wilson’.

Music by Bergman: Peter Broderick

Born in 1987, Peter Broderick is an American-born multi-instrumentalist and singer, brought up in a musical household in Oregon. In his later teenage years he became entwined in the indie folk scene in Portland, recording for the likes of M. Ward, Laura Gibson and Dolorean.

On August 28, 2020 he surprised the world with a drop release of Blackberry, his first vocal based album in over five years. Peter continues to travel the world, performing solo concerts and collaborating with a vast array of different musicians and artists.

Favourite Gig: Patrick Watson

Montreal singer-songwriter and pianist Patrick Watson returns to Barcelona seven years after his last visit to present his sixth album, ‘Wave’ (2019). Watson, who has been compared to Jeff Buckley, Devendra Banhard, Andrew Bird or M. Ward, became known after participating in The Cinematic Orchestra’s ‘Ma fleur’ ​​(2007), including his song plus popular, ‘To build a home’. Tonight in concert at Sala Apolo.

Divus Julius presents…HALA

Ian Ruhala, better known as HALA, has been writing and recording music for several years now and at the young age of 18, he is already a singer/songwriter veteran. With several releases already under his belt, even before graduating high school, Ruhala has created some  buzz with his solo, at-home/DIY recording style that relates well with music from artists like  M. Ward, Mac DeMarco and Travis Bretzer.

M. Ward i Howe Gelb al festival Altaveu

Nit especial i única al festival Altaveu que encapçalen dos referents de l’americana que ha revolucionat l’escena musical dels últims anys. D’una banda Howe Gelb, líder de Giant Sand, que ha celebrat enguany els seus 30 anys damunt dels escenaris i que té també una llarga carrera com a solista, trencant les fronteres del folk convencional i de l’altre M. Ward, amb una sòlida carrer en solitari en la que ha publicat grans discos com ‘Transistor radio’ (2015), ha publicat discos amb el seu projecte She&Him amb Zooey Deschanel i ha col·laborat amb els seus Monsters of Folk. Obriran la sessió als jardins els valencians Senior i el Cor Brutal, aquest cop un dels referents de l’americana a casa nostra, amb Miquel Àngel Landete al capdavant.

Festival Altaveu 2015

Fundat l’any 1989, el veterà festival Altaveu arriba a una nova edició apostant per grups de l’escena catalana que compartiran cartell amb noms de primera línia. Durant els dies 10, 11 i 12 de setembre bandes locals com Sidonie, lluny de ser promeses; o Obeses, lluny de ser un grup convencional, actuaran en diversos punts del centre de Sant Boi. El vestit de la veterania però, el lluiran els caps de cartell internacionals com l’artista texà Howe Gelb, cantant dels Giant Sand, que pujarà a l’escenari acompanyat d’un altre cantant de primera línia, M. Ward. Altres convidats són Nacho Vegas, Christina Rosenvinge o Joan Miquel Oliver.
