Fear, chaos, fragility, strength, pleasure, pain, love… above all, love; Yves Tumor’s art expresses all this and so much more. If there is such thing as an iconoclastic artist in today’s musical scenario, Yves Tumor is one of them. At the crossroads between performance art, BDSM practices, ritual experiences and full on punk/rave destruction, his live show is one of the most mind-bending around.
Unpredictable and undefinable, the enigmatic producer’s music is indeed a serpent, slithering through the deepest levels of human emotion. Following previous work on PAN, Janus and various self-released sonic excursions, he is set to release his his new album “Safe in the Hands of Love” via Warp.
His performance at MIRA 2018, today, will be the Spanish premiere of his new A/V show in collaboration with visual artist, coder and designer Ezra Miller. If Miller’s previous work with artists such as Evian Christ, Suicide Year and Oneohtrix Point Never is anything to go by, their performance will be an experience that will become deeply ingrained in the minds and bodies of those present.
The first edition of this festival, back in 2010, had eight activities on its programme. This year, there are over 70 planned, spread out over three days. Despite this growth, the philosophy is still the same: to put the audience in the centre of avant-garde sound and visual experiences created by artists from all over the world. MIRA is a music and digital arts festival, but above all it’s an experimental funfair, and something you won’t be able to see anywhere else in Barcelona.
Things get underway with Nicolas Jaar’s ‘¡Miércoles!’ (Thu 8, 5pm-8pm), a three-hour jam with Mexican dancer Stéphanie Janaina and an immersive system with 50 speakers. Plus don’t miss the exclusive MIRA DOME by Adidas Originals, the first 360-degree dome in Barcelona, where you’ll see innovative international acts. This year the festival also takes over the first floor at Fabra i Coats, with the exhibition ‘The Search for (Modern) Pleasure’, which you can check out until December 16, and which explores the concept of pleasure in the digital age.

El MIRA Festival 2016 se celebrarà els dies 10, 11 i 12 de noviembre a Fabra i Coats al barri de Sant Andreu de Barcelona.
El dijous 10 de noviembre programarà els Open Acts, una jornada d’ activitats gratïites que en aquesta edició se celebrará a la mateixa Fabra i Coats. L’última jornada del MIRA és plena de joies: Zomby, el productor britànic que acaba de publicar Ultra –un viatge pel dubstep, el 2-step i el UK garage– el presentarà amb els visuals de Pfandfinderei; el grup més transgressor de l’electrònica espanyola dels vuitanta, Esplendor Geométrico, tocaran el seu darrer àlbum; i per tancar el festival Job Jobse, un dels millors DJs europeus actuals, capo de Life and Death, amb visuals de Jem The Misfit. Un altre dels concerts destacats, dens cap dubte, serà el dels britànics Death In Vegas. Com sempre, tenir el MIRA cada any a Barcelona és tot un luxe.
