Introducing…Knifeplay

Knifeplay spent three years worrying over and tinkering with the songs on Animal Drowning, and it shows. Recorded with Philly indie rock whisperer Jeff Zeigler, the band’s sophomore album is perfectly executed shoegaze: hypnotic and bleak and impossibly beautiful. The band owes much to legends of the genre like My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins, but their influences run deeper — to emo greats American Football and slowcore staples Duster. Animal Drowning is harrowing but calming, and it contains so many rippling effects and small but significant touches that you simply must lean in and listen closely.

The muses of La Musa: Hope Sandoval

In 2001, Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval and My Bloody Valentine’s Colm Ó Cíosóig joined forced as Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions to release the project’s debut full-length, Bavarian Fruit Bread. Eight years later, they put out another LP, Through The Devil Softly. Now, they’re gearing up to release another one, called Until The Hunter, in November, and the’ve already released the album’s lead single. It’s called “Let Me Get There” and it’s a muted duet with Kurt Vile.

El caos evocador de Ringo Deathstarr

Ringo Deathstarr són un trio texà de shoegaze nascut a Beaumont però aviat reubicat a la més musical localitat d’Austin. Amb cinc àlbums publicats, l’últim d’ells ‘Pure mood’ (2015), ens portaran la seva poderosa fúria guitarrera plena de caos i veus evocadores que s’endinsa en territoris que recorden a My Bloody Valentine o Slowdive. A més, Pacosan una de les propostes sense cap mena de dubte més rellevants de l’escena indie local amb un meravellós disc de debut “My High”. Avui a  la sala Sidecar.

Pardals: Elora

L’ exGlissandol Marco Morgione l’any 2013 fundà Elora. En aquesta nova aventura l’acompanyen també Daniel Cano Alarcón i Daniel Setti. En menys de dos anys, han treballat de debò i han tret cinc EPs amn temes nous i un EP recopilatori pel mercat nord-americà, amb el segell barcelonès Siete Señoritas Gritando. També han produït uns quants videoclips. Elora finalment publiquen el seu primer LP “Tú”l i el presenten primer pels Estats Units amb una extensa i exitosa gira de 21 concerts en només 25 dies, tocant en ciutats tan emblemàtiques com Nova York (5 dates), Philadelphia, Boston, Providence, Louisville, Norfolk, Nashville… i moltes més.

Soroll, afinacions rares, veus corale i ritmes contundents formen part de l’espectre sonor d’aquest trio multinacional (Nàpols, Múrcia i São Paulo són les seves ciutats natals). Amants de bandes com Sonic Youth, Sebadoh i My Bloody Valentine, el seu objectiu és trobar un so propi. Són els nostres “pardals” de la setmana i avui seran a la sala Almo2bar.
