Elusive New York City jazz group Onyx Collective returns with the release of their new single. “My Funny Valentine” features Nick Hakim and is a reimagining of the song originally written for Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart’s 1937 musical Babes in Arms. Nick Hakim delivers a delicate vocal performance over. With the release Onyx Collective becomes one of the many significant artists to cover the song, including Hal McIntyre and Ruth Gaylor, Chet Baker, Frank Sinatra, Lee Wiley, Ella Fitzgerald and many others.
Classical yet modern, grounded yet otherworldly, both Kelsey Lu and the music she creates defy easy categorisation. She is a classically trained cellist and her output today is a unique fusion of everything from jazz to contemporary pop, blues to 1970s folk: her friends call her singular style “Lu-thereal”. She has collaborated with Skrillex, Dev Hynes, Sampha and Solange Knowles, all while forging a career as a determined and uncompromising solo artist.
Kelsey Lu has dropped her stunning new track, ‘Morning Dew’. Her first release since last year’s debut album ‘Blood’, it features saxophone from Isaiah Barr from Onyx Collective and was penned while Lu was living in an old leather factory in Hoboken New Jersey.
