Bria is a new project comprising Bria Salmena and Duncan Hay Jennings, who are both in the band FRIGS and have toured as part of Orville Peck’s band. Their first release is set to be a set of six covers of classic tunes from the likes of Lucinda Williams, John Cale, The Walker Brothers and more; it’s called Cuntry Covers Vol. 1 and comes out on September 24 through Sub Pop.
Along with the news, they’ve shared the set’s opening track, “Green Rocky Road”, a song originally by Karen Dalton.
Orville Peck turns ‘Born This Way’ into a country road anthem with his brand new Lady Gaga cover. The 10th anniversary edition of ‘Born This Way’ will feature the 14 tracks of the original record, plus 6 reimagined versions by artists yet to be revealed, including ‘The Edge of Glory’, ‘Marry The Night’ and more. The full thing is set for release on 18th June.
Emerging country musician Orville Peck, who is gay, only appears in public in a cowboy hat and mask, and his voice has earned favorable comparisons to Roy Orbison, Chris Isaak and Elvis Presley.
When listening to the mysterious nomad’s recently debut album Pony, it is clear the dusty roots of country music flows heavily through Peck’s bloodstream. Adopting and expanding upon an outlaw demeanor best illustrated by the likes of Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn and Waylon Jennings decades ago and more recently, Sturgill Simpson, Peck renders the timeless genre with otherness. Tomorrow in concert at Sidecar.
