4Ever Songs: Phil Collins ‘In The Air Tonight’

What a way to start! By 1978, he had been part of Genesis for nearly eight years, and had reluctantly accepted the role of frontman following Peter Gabriel’s departure. However, he had been planning to do a solo album for some time by 1981.

Phil wrote the song during the grief he felt after divorcing his first wife Andrea Bertorelli in 1980. The divorce contributed to his 1979 hiatus from Genesis, until the band regrouped in October of that year to record the album Duke. The song reached number two in the UK, and has sold over 3 million copies in the States. It also reached the top 10 in at least 13 other countries, and has arguably become his signature song.

Best Covers: Ane Brun ‘Big in Japan’

Ane Brun is a Norwegian-born, Sweden-dwelling songwriter who – fun fact – used to tour as one of Peter Gabriel‘s backup singers. She covered Alphaville’s debut single ‘Big in Japan’, the tune climbed to top of the charts in Switzerland, Germany, and Sweden. Oh, and on the super-prestigious Billboard Hot Dance Club Play list.

Introducing…City Park

Saux and Sjaak come forward with a truly beautiful number as their first track together and under the stage name City Park. The duo produces powerful electronic indie that is driven by all time classics like Peter Gabriel, Blood Orange and even Prince at times. Bringing the strongest vocals we’ve heard in quite a bit. Not only that, but in this day and age. How you package your art into a compelling body of work is equally important. For lasting visuals, they brought on Jiye Kim and her otherworldly simplistic, minimal approach to painting. Capitalizing on a single color and inspired by the music the pair have put forward.
