4Ever Songs: Oasis “Wonderwall”
If you’re looking for a peak moment in the career of Oasis, those rough-and-tumble, rude-and-ready bastions of BritPop, “Wonderwall” is that moment. As a matter of fact, it’s probably the acme of that entire musical movement that included bands like Blur and Pulp and ruled the roost for a brief, heady time in the mid-’90s. The song, featured on the band’s nearly perfect second album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory, not only enthralled the hometown fans, reaching #2 in the U.K., but it also broke the band to the American pop audience, hitting #8 on the Billboard charts.

Hit of the week: Jarv Is “House Music All Night Long”
After releasing “Must I Evolve,” last May, Jarv Is, fronted by former Pulp leader Jarvis Cocker, has just released a new single, “House Music All Night Long.”
Unlike the moodier sound of “Must I Evolve,” “House Music All Night Long” is much more playful and will get you instantly dancing around your living room… or wherever you plan to listen to it. This is the latest single off the Jarv Is’ upcoming album, Beyond the Pale, which is due out on May 1.
Music by Bergman: Jarv Is
What can we say about Jarvis Cocker that hasn’t already been said? He may describe himself as a short-sighted musician & broadcaster from Sheffield, but we know him as an icon. As the lead singer of Pulp for 34 years, he created songs that you’ve sung back at him and that have soundtracked all the important moments of your life. You also know him as the creator of two magnificent solo albums and as the man who released Room 29: a song-cycle written in collaboration with the Canadian pianist, Chilly Gonzales.
Last year he returned with new material. He played tiny clubs and caverns throughout the UK, presenting his new musical ensemble, JARV IS.
Hit of the week: Arcade Fire ‘Everything Now’
Arcade Fire have announced their fifth album Everything Now will be released next month on Columbia. You can now hear the official stream of the title track after the band’s surprise released it on 12″ at Primavera Festival this week.
The disco-inflected track is produced by the band along with Pulp’s Steve Mackey and Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter, though no details have surfaced about the full tracklist or production credits. Arcade Fire’s last album, 2014’s Reflektor was produced by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, although he might be a little busy with bringing his own band back to help out this time. Everything Now is out July 28.
