A couple months back, German dance producer Roosevelt, real name Marius Lauber, returned with a new single, “Sign,” his first material since the 2018 full-length Young Romance. Today, he’s sharing another new track, “Echoes,” a strobe-lit and expansive cut that locks into an insistent groove and periodically explodes into bright colors.
Roosevelt has released another single via W Records titled “Everywhere” – a groovy and electrifying cover of Fleetwood Mac’s song. Fueled with jangly beats and Roosevelt’s intricate disco touch,
Blending disco, funk and soul with flowing pop melodies and hints of sugary Balearic music? Double tick. Doing this live in organic formation (with drums, guitars and keyboards) while totally focused on the dance floor? Two blue ticks.
The German artist Marius Lauber a.k.a. Roosevelt has spent his whole life collecting ticks at each step he takes. Before starting his own project he was already resident at the Kompakt Total Confusion night together with Superpitcher and Michael Mayer, but he soon discovered the glory of pop. With it he convinced the Greco-Roman label (co-founded by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip) to release that refreshing sip of iced tea, ie his debut EP, Elliot, in 2013. Three years later, now on City Slang, came his homonymous LP, that is from beginning to end like a delightful boat trip, underpinned by melodic nocturnal breezes, warm waves of synthesisers and rhythms that guarantee total stability.
With his second album, Young Romance, released last year, Roosevelt has reinforced his position in the first division of this genre that includes big names such as Hot Chip, Caribou and Metronomy. Marius Lauber’s band will give us the golden opportunity to get on board tonight at Razzmatazz 2,
The German producer Marius Lauber has introduced himself on more than one occasion as a sort of cross between Hot Chip, Caribou and New Order, and you only have to listen to his single “Hold On” to see that the comparison is not far off the mark. Elegant, imaginative and with one foot in house and the other in disco pop, this artist from Cologne first made a name for himself in 2013 with “Elliot”, and impeccable EP of nostalgic electronic music and synth pop drenched in indie candour that opened the Greco-Roman Records’ door to him, the label behind the success of Disclosure and on which he has just released “Hold On/Night Moves”.
