Favourite Gig: The Tallest Man on Earth

Swedish artist Kristian Matsson (aka The Tallest Man on Earth) has won the hearts of thousands of fans with his natural manner as his man weapon and a catalogue of highly emotional and melodic songs with echos of Bob Dylan. He’s in Barcelona to present his newest album, ‘Dark Bird Is Home’ (2015), the fourth of his career and the first he’s recorded with a band, which will perform live with him as well. Divus Julius presents…Eels

The muses of La Musa: Julia Holter

California native Julia Holter has really made a name for herself among contemporary experimental pop. She’s had classical training and studied electronic music at the California Institute of the Arts. Holter makes her debut at the Jazz Festival with a grand piano to accompany her, as she presents her latest album, ‘In the Same Room’ (2017), which was recorded live with her usual band in a London studio while on tour for her fourth album, ‘Have You in My Wilderness’ (2015). Tonight at sala Barts.

Le Classique: The Waterboys

Thirty years after their album ‘Fisherman’s Blues’ (1998), when they showed the world that an Irish/Scottish folk band could also be a powerful rock band, The Waterboys, who got their start in Edinburgh in 1983, are not only still around, but they’re still going strong. Mike Scott and company make their debut in the Barcelona International Jazz Festival this year to present their latest album, ‘Out of All This Blue’ (2017). Tonight at sala Barts.

Divus Julius presents…The Gift
