Best Covers: Two Door Cinema Club ‘Isolation’

Two Door Cinema Club have shared their delightful cover of John Lennon’s ‘Isolation’ in an effort to raise funds for Ireland’s leading social justice charity, Extern.

Frontman Alex Trimble recorded a cover of the John Lennon classic at his makeshift home studio. The track originally featured on Lennon’s 1970 debut solo album John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band and has been covered by a host of names such as Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck as well as Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo during this current strange period of self-isolation.

Best Covers: Cat Power ‘Sea of Love’

Chan Marshall has been making music as Cat Power for about 20 years now. She was discovered by Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth and Tim Foljahn of Two Dollar Guitar. Since then she has released 9 albums.  Cat Power’s cover “Sea of Love” -a  Phil Phillips’ classic-  was prominently featured in the acclaimed film Juno.

Music by Bergman: The Orielles

Hailing from Halifax, The Orielles are sisters Sidonie B and Esmé Dee Hand Halford and their best friend Henry Carlyle Wade whom they met at a house party just a few years ago. The then teenagers bonded over their shared love of alternative US bands from the 90s such as Sonic Youth & Pixies as well as pioneering filmmakers including Quentin Tarantino (The Orielles have cited his work in their songs and consider his work a major lyrical and aesthetical influence). The Halifax-based band have confirmed they’ll release their twelve track full-length ‘Silver Dollar Moment’ on 16th February 2017 on Heavenly Recordings.

Pardals: Elora

L’ exGlissandol Marco Morgione l’any 2013 fundà Elora. En aquesta nova aventura l’acompanyen també Daniel Cano Alarcón i Daniel Setti. En menys de dos anys, han treballat de debò i han tret cinc EPs amn temes nous i un EP recopilatori pel mercat nord-americà, amb el segell barcelonès Siete Señoritas Gritando. També han produït uns quants videoclips. Elora finalment publiquen el seu primer LP “Tú”l i el presenten primer pels Estats Units amb una extensa i exitosa gira de 21 concerts en només 25 dies, tocant en ciutats tan emblemàtiques com Nova York (5 dates), Philadelphia, Boston, Providence, Louisville, Norfolk, Nashville… i moltes més.

Soroll, afinacions rares, veus corale i ritmes contundents formen part de l’espectre sonor d’aquest trio multinacional (Nàpols, Múrcia i São Paulo són les seves ciutats natals). Amants de bandes com Sonic Youth, Sebadoh i My Bloody Valentine, el seu objectiu és trobar un so propi. Són els nostres “pardals” de la setmana i avui seran a la sala Almo2bar.
