Music by Bergman: Spiritualized

In Spiritualized’s music three states of matter exist in harmony: the foundations of his songs are as hard as silex and his arrangements pour out, flow and fill spaces like a liquid. The fact that from this combination comes a music that rises gas-like to the skies is a mystery that only Jason Pierce himself holds the key to. With both Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized, Jason has been the guardian of an alchemical secret that transforms noise into gospel, traditional blues into futuristic avant-garde music and psychedelic garage into chamber music.

Now after the stellar show with an orchestra and choir in the Auditori del Fòrum at the recent edition of Primavera Sound, Spiritualized are coming back to perform live in Barcelona, this time with a classical formation to present the songs from their recently announced eighth album, And Nothing Hurt, after 6 years of studio silence. An album composed and recorded solo by Jason Pierce, on which bedroom folk sounds like a sonic Big Bang Theory. With them, neither the number of musicians on stage nor how the tracks were originally recorded count: what is important is the matter (and its three states) which constitute their songs. Primavera Sound 2018 #Wednesday

The opening – and free! – day of Primavera Sound 2018 gives you a taste of what’s to come in the three intense days that follow at the Parc del Fòrum during the biggest music festival in the land. The biggest draw of the day is Scottish outfit Belle and Sebastian, which Stuart Murdoch has led since their beginnings in the mid-’90s. True classics of indie pop, they present songs from their three-EP collection, ‘How to Solve Our Human Problems’ (2017-2018). Rounding out the bill is the Chilean pop diva Javiera Mena with her new album; post punk from Canadians Wolf Parade; Starcrawler, a young band led by the charismatic Arrow de Wilde; and psychedlic rock from young Catalans Holy Bouncer.

Update: Be aware that today the organisers have also programmed concerts inside the Auditori del Fòrum only for festival-goers who have purchased full festival tickets. There you can check out British space rockers Spiritualized, fronted by Jason Pierce, and accompanied by an orchestra and a choir, making their already atmospheric sound even more enveloping, as well as María Arnal and Marcel Bagés, true masters of emotion contained in the form of song.

Primavera Sound 2015

El Primavera Sound 2015 se celebrarà del 28 al 30 de maig en el Parc del Fòrum de la ciutat de Barcelona. Després de la brutal edició de l’any passat amb grups com Arcade Fire, Nine Inch Nails, Pixies o Queens Of The Stone Age, entre d’altres, l’organizació del festival ens regala un altre cartell meravellós.

 

El dimecres 27 de maig les portes s’obriran gratuïtament per a tothom com ja és costum i sobre l’escenari hi trobarem entre d’altres a Albert Hammond Jr, Las Ruinas, Panama o OMD. El dijous, ja de pagament, és l’hora de The Black Keys, The Replacements, Antony and The Johnsons, James Blake, Spiritualized, Chet Faker, Jungle o Panda Bear. El divendres  encapçalen el cartell Ride, Alt-J i la mítica Patti Smith. A més, també tocaran Belle & Sebastian, Damien Rice, Death From Above 1979, José González, Ariel Pink, Run The Jewels o Perfume Genius. El darrer dia el festival s’acomiadarà amb The Strokes, Interpo, Underworld, Caribou, Foxygen, Mac DeMarco, Unknown Mortal Orchestra o Strand of Oaks. A gaudir, doncs!
