A deeply introspective and noisy Chicago-based indie rock project led by singer/songwriter Lillie West, Lala Lala rose from playing basements in the underground D.I.Y. scene to signing with Sub Pop imprint Hardly Art for their 2018 sophomore album The Lamb.
Born in London, England, but raised during her teenage years in Los Angeles, West eventually headed to Chicago where she was a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Lala Lala has returned to announce her new album, I Want The Door To Open, out October 8th via Hardly Art. As part of the announcement, she’s shared a video for her new track, “Diver.”
Bria is a new project comprising Bria Salmena and Duncan Hay Jennings, who are both in the band FRIGS and have toured as part of Orville Peck’s band. Their first release is set to be a set of six covers of classic tunes from the likes of Lucinda Williams, John Cale, The Walker Brothers and more; it’s called Cuntry Covers Vol. 1 and comes out on September 24 through Sub Pop.
Along with the news, they’ve shared the set’s opening track, “Green Rocky Road”, a song originally by Karen Dalton.
They started in 2011 but it was their signing to Sub Pop and the release of their debut “Return To Love”, that have made this New York quartet influenced by bands including Neutral Milk Hotel, Dinosaur Jr., Pavement and Mount Eerie so popular. The band formed by Mike Caridi, Dave Benton and Ben Smith at State University, debuted in 2011 with “Space Brothers” and started to attract attention with their second album, “Hoodwink’d” that encapsulated the best of 90s indie and transformed it into an unruly exercise of melodic and rhythmic impertinenc.e. They will be playing today at Primavera Sound.
