Kurt Vile (born January 3, 1980) is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He is known for his solo work and as the former lead guitarist of rock band The War on Drugs.
Kurt Vile has shared another new song from his forthcoming album (watch my moves). The latest single is titled “Hey Like a Child,” with the rest of the album arriving on April 15. (watch my moves) is the Philadelphia-based artist’s follow-up to 2018’s Bottle It In, and his first for Verve Records.
Grammy-award winners Philadelphia-based indie band The War On Drugs have released their new album I Don’t Live Here Anymore. This will be the band’s first record in four years after the release of their award-winning fourth album, A Deeper Understanding.
Nightlands is the recording project of Philadelphia-based multi-instrumentalist Dave Hartley. The music he creates in his bedroom is itself a bed of delicate, chiming strings and bubbling synths beneath a blanket of choral vocal arrangements. It’s dreamy in the literal sense — the seeds for the album were sown when Hartley began archiving musical ideas that occurred in his sleep with a simple bedside tape recorder. As a result his debut album Forget the Mantra is, in essence, a field recording of Hartley’s dreams — a travel journal through pop music and a collection of psych-hymns from the first human lunar colony. The songs sound both huge and intimate, breathy and cavernous like massive echoes of a faraway concert. It’s the big, shadow music from just across the lake.
The War On Drugs just put out a new album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore. Around the time they released their previous album in 2017, the band’s bassist Dave Hartley put out a new album of his own as Nightlands. Now, he’s back with another Nightlands project, an EP called Moonshine.
Kurt Vile already has five solo albums under his belt, and two before that with The War On Drugs, a band he founded together with Adam Granduciel. He’s got a whole arsenal of Americana music that’s helped him stray from the usual course and become one of the more remarkable artists of his generation. After his joint album with Australian artist Courtney Barnett, ‘Lotta Sea Lice’ (2017), he now returns to present his new and much anticipated solo album, ‘Bottle It In’ (2018).
It’s here! Thursday is the first full day of Primavera Sound 2018, with a line-up that, as we’ve come to expect, is extensive and impressive, and starts off with a bang on this day that features headliners such as everyone’s favourite Islandic avant-garde artist, Björk, with her latest album, ‘Utopia’ (2017), on which she collaborated with Arca, who you’ll also be able to catch at the festival; and elegance as music with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, blasting out tracks from their emotional and a bit sad ‘Skeleton Tree’ (2016), which they’re performing for the first time in Barcelona. Also getting you moving between stages are Philadelphia band The War on Drugs, who, with ‘A Deeper Understanding’ (2017), have garnered as much praise as with their acclaimed previous album, ‘Lost in the Dream’ (2014), which had the international press kneeling at the feet of their classic rock; legendary band Sparks, that unclassifiable duo from Los Angeles made up of brothers Ron and Russel Mael, who present their 23rd album, ‘Hippopotamus’ (2017); the return of American hip hop artist Vince Staples; electronic and energetic pop from British trio Chvrches, with their much-anticipated new album, ‘Love Is Dead’ (2018); Fever Ray, a solo project for Swedish artist Karin Dreijer (The Knife), who’s also got a new album out, the contagious ‘Plunge’ (2017); electronica from Floating Points, also known as producer and doctor of neuroscience Sam Shepherd, performing live as well as a six-hour DJ set on Friday; Nils Frahm and his experimental electronica; the meloncholy of the all-women quartet Warpaint; iridescent psychedelic pop from New Zealanders Unknown Mortal Orchestra; and American artist Kelela, who impresses with her versatility and perfect adaptation to dominant trends in current electronica and pop.
