Introducing…Ginger Root

Editing films, videos, and other multimedia by day, and making music under the name Ginger Root by night, Cameron Lew fronts a sounds that can be described as: “Aggressive Elevator Soul”.

Combining elements from contemporaries like Toro Y Moi, Vulfpeck, Metronomy, and Kero Kero Bonito with the influences of Japanese City Pop and the days of Stax and Philly Soul, Ginger Root offers a fresh take on the ever evolving Bedroom Pop scene. “Loneliness” is the first single off of Ginger Root‘s next EP, “Nisemono” out Sept 9th on Acrophase Records.

Music by Bergman: Toro y Moi

Toro y Moi started as the solo project of Chaz Bear, who took his solo musical endeavors to greater and greater heights of sophistication on a series of releases with the encouragement of his friend from school, Ernest Greene of Washed Out.  In the wake 2008’s global economic collapse, Toro y Moi emerged as a figurehead of the beloved sub-genre widely known as chillwave, the sparkling fumes of which still heavily influence musicians all over today.

Toro y Moi project will return this spring with the new album Mahal.

Music by Bergman: Flying Lotus

Described as “an astral afro-futurist masterpiece of deep soul, cosmic dust and startling originality”,  Flying Lotus is back with the 27-track LP ‘Flamagra’ which will arrive tomorrow. The album features a squadron of superstars which includes George Clinton, Little Dragon, Anderson .Paak, David Lynch, Tierra Whack, Denzel Curry, Shabazz Palaces, Thundercat, Toro y Moi, Solange and more.

Ahead of the release, Flying Lotus has directed a new music video alongside David Firth for the album cut ‘Fire Is Coming’ which features the famous American filmmaker and musician, David Lynch.

The muses of La Musa: Madeline Kenney

Madeline Kenney‘s upcoming debut album, Night Night at the First Landing, was produced by Toro Y Moi’s Chaz Bear (formerly known as Chaz Bundick), but there’s nothing chillwave or dance-y about it. Instead Kenney is more in vein of Angel Olsen or Marika Hackman, with some dream-pop touches thrown in. The album is due out September 1 via Company Records (an offshoot of Carpark spearheaded by Bear).
