The Estonian five-piece band makes a virtue out of simplicity: fuzzy guitar workouts and lamenting folky compositions are often suffused in a detached languor that reminisces a ‘90s alternative pop-rock. And, just like their predecessors did (especially bands like Mazzy Star and Galaxie 500), Holy Motors’ textures recall the drug-induced states of vintage psychedelia and Velvet Underground’s droning art-rock.
With their debut album, Slow Sundown, released in February 2018 on Wharf Cat records, the band stays true to the dream pop genre, while exploring its darker side. With the follow-up to their 2018 debut ‘Slow Sundown’ set to arrive on 16th October, Holy Motors are giving us the latest glimpse at what ‘Horse’ will hold, sharing new song ‘Trouble’.
Potser ha arribat l’hora d’acabar amb la mentida generalitzada que a les Terres de l’Ebre no s’hi fa bona música. Alguns dels responsables d’eliminar la fal·làcia són VLIVM (fonèticament, ‘vàlium’), un quintet de Tortosa que practica un exquisit pop melòdic impregnat de certa melancolia. Deutors de les harmonies de Gerard Love (Teenage Fanclub) i la psicodèlia de finals dels 60 de la Velvet Underground, els ebrencs s’han convertit en un dels secrets millor guardats de la ciutat. Malgrat tenir un bon grapat de cançons a internet, n’esperem un disc en condicions. Potser fan cançons massa complexes per arribar al gran públic, però van sobrats de talent.
Brian Eno is the man responsible for the famous quote about everybody who bought the first Velvet Underground album forming a band. In 2016 he paid tribute to the VU again with his ambient-touched cover of “I’m Set Free.”It may not cause a spike in band formations, but Eno’s warm vocals drifting down his river of musical atmosphere may well set listeners free to find new illusions of their own, which would no doubt bring pleasure to Eno – and maybe even to Lou Reed as well.
Després de formar-se als Estats Units durant el 1999, la formació sempre canviant de The Warlocks havia arribat a comptar amb dinou membres abans de convertir-se en l’actual formació que són ara. La seva música: sons hipnòtics que suggereixen una col·lisió entre la psicodèlia clàssica, el krautrock i la part més rockera de la Velvet Underground.
